About

Valse à Rosenthal is a gypsy-jazz waltz by Gisela Reinhardt, widely known through the Rosenberg Trio's recording on their album Seresta and now a staple of the manouche valse repertoire.

The sound: a swift 3/4 in E minor that turns through dominant and minor colours (B7, E7, A minor), carrying the elegant, cascading momentum typical of the gypsy waltz.

Practising it: lock the light three-feel first. Drill E harmonic minor and the B7 arpeggio, aim the D♯ leading tone into Em, and add the ornamental runs only once the underlying arpeggios are clean at speed.
