Written by Harry Warren with lyricist Mack Gordon for the 1942 film Iceland and introduced by Woody Herman, this became a beloved jazz standard prized for its long, singing melody and beguiling modulations.
The sound — flowing E♭ major, moving through a series of ii–V progressions that modulate gracefully before settling home — the changes are a masterclass in smooth harmonic motion.
