About
Rose Room is a 1917 jazz standard by Art Hickman (music) and Harry Williams (lyrics), named after a ballroom in San Francisco's St. Francis Hotel. Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club de France recorded it, cementing its place in the manouche book.
The sound - an easy-swinging F major tune that opens on G7-C7 before landing home, then slips to B♭ and darkens on the minor iv (B♭m).
Practising it - outline the G7 and C7 arpeggios over the opening ii-V feel, and catch the chromatic B♭ to B♭m (the D♭) on the way back. A relaxed medium swing suits it.
