About
Just One of Those Things is a Cole Porter standard written overnight for the 1935 Broadway musical Jubilee. Its rueful lyric and headlong momentum made it an American Songbook favourite gypsy players take at a gallop.
The sound — rooted in F but restless: its signature is a long descending circle-of-fifths cascade of ii–V pairs that tumbles through key after key.
Practising it — this is a circle-of-fifths workout. Drill your ii–V arpeggios and chain the guide-tones so each dominant leads smoothly to the next. Start slow enough to keep every change clean before pushing the tempo.
