Written by Jack Palmer and Spencer Williams and introduced by Clarence Williams' Blue Five in 1926, this became a jazz-standard cornerstone recorded by everyone from Sidney Bechet to Bing Crosby, and a staple at manouche jams.
The sound — swinging F major driven by a chain of dominants (D7–G7–C7–F) that pulls you round the cycle of fifths, with a bluesy B♭7 for colour.
Practising it — work the cycle: chase each dominant arpeggio through D7, G7, C7 into F, aiming for the guide tones. A great tune for drilling ii–V–I motion up-tempo.
