About
Place Parodi is a composition by the gypsy-jazz guitarist Moreno Winterstein, a favourite among modern manouche players who have taken it into the jam repertoire.
The sound - it opens in G minor on the i-iv-V (Gm, Cm, D7), then slides down a lush chain of flat-key dominants and majors (F7-B♭, E♭7-A♭, D♭, G♭) for a rich, drifting second half.
Practising it - start with G harmonic minor and a strong D7♭9 resolving to Gm, then follow the descending cycle B♭-E♭-A♭, arpeggiating each dominant into the next chord. Take the flat-key section slowly until the moves feel automatic.
