About

Laurence Suni is a composition by the Alsatian guitarist Moréno Winterstein, who recorded it on his 1994 album Yochka. A student of Tchan Tchou Vidal, Moréno is a distinctive modern manouche voice, and this tune has settled into the contemporary repertoire.

The sound — F major, opening on a Gm–C7 ii–V, with a Bdim7 passing chord and an A7 that pulls to Dm. Elegant and singing.

Practising it — target the F major scale and the Gm, C7 and Dm arpeggios, and voice-lead A7 into Dm. Watch the m6 colour on Gm6 — a manouche fingerprint. Take it at a warm medium tempo.
