About
Jardin d'hiver was written in 2000 by Keren Ann and Benjamin Biolay, and made famous by Henri Salvador on his acclaimed comeback album Chambre avec vue — a French bossa that won several Victoires de la Musique.
The sound — a warm A major bossa, softened by a D♭7♭9 colour and a chain (D♭7, G♭m, Bm, E7) that drifts before settling home. Languid and nostalgic.
Practising it — this is a comping tune first: lock a gentle bossa pattern and voice the chords cleanly. To solo, lean on A major and treat the E7 as the pull back to the tonic. Keep it relaxed.
