About

A valse musette masterpiece composed in 1942 by accordionist Tony Murena with Joseph Colombo — a Paris café-ball classic that crossed into gypsy jazz through Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.

The sound — a swirling waltz in E minor, driven by the tension of B7 pulling home and a bright turn to the relative G major in the middle before the minor returns.

Practising it — lock the 3/4 pulse first. Drill the E harmonic minor scale and the Em, B7 and Am arpeggios; target D♯ on the B7 resolving to E. Build speed only once the waltz lilt is steady.
