About
An original by Dutch guitarist Stochelo Rosenberg of the Rosenberg Trio, written for his sister Sephora. It has become a modern gypsy-jazz classic and a rite of passage for students of the style.
The sound — a bossa-tinged piece in E minor, opening on the i-iv-V (Em, Am, B7) then brightening through D7, G and C. Lyrical rather than fiery, it lives on melody.
Practising it — start with the E harmonic minor scale and the Em, Am and B7 arpeggios, and give the bossa groove its space. Phrase for tone and singing lines, not speed; this one rewards taste.
