About
A modern gypsy-jazz standard by French guitarist Dorado Schmitt, and his best-known composition — a piece that fuses bossa-nova rhythm with manouche swing and is now played at jams the world over.
The sound — a smoky D minor over a bossa groove, coloured by a Gm6, an E7 reaching outside the key, and an Am7♭5–D7 turn setting up the minor cadence.
Practising it — settle into the even bossa feel first (no swing eighths). Work the D minor and Gm6 arpeggios, and the Am7♭5–D7–Gm ii–V–i. Aim for smooth, singing lines rather than flat-out speed.
