The chain of dominants
Dominants resolving into dominants — B7 → E7 → A — the ladder behind so many manouche bridges.
A dominant resolves down a fifth. Line several up and each one becomes the dominant of the next: B7 → E7 → A. Every link is a 7 chord pulling to the one after it.
This ladder of tension is why so many gypsy-jazz bridges feel like they're constantly falling forward — each dominant sets up the next before finally landing.
You hear it in the B section of Minor Swing, in the bridges of rhythm-changes tunes, in Django's own writing: a cascade of dominants, each resolving into another.
To solo over it you can give each dominant its own arpeggio, or follow the chromatic voice-leading that threads one chord smoothly into the next.
